The second largest full-service home care agency and hospice facility in Wisconsin, Horizon Home Care & Hospice has been steadily growing to serve the needs of patients and families.  Though future plans include a free-standing facility, Horizon had a unique opportunity to renovate an existing space within Columbia St. Mary’s-Ozaukee Hospital to serve as their interim Hospice Residence facility.

Working closely with Horizon’s President and CEO, Forrer and architect Engberg Anderson transformed the former Birth Center at Columbia St. Mary’s into a comfortable, home-like atmosphere for Hospice patients.  Special attention was given to details such as paint colors, fabrics, wall coverings, lighting and accessories in order to create a nurturing and calming environment throughout the facility, from family waiting areas and hallways to patient rooms.

This careful attention to detail, as well as strategic furniture selection and application, allowed Forrer to achieve the client’s desired aesthetic result, while also accommodating budget and time restrictions.  The end result is a soothing and comfortable environment where Horizon’s patients and their families can feel at home.
